The Candelera Fair has been celebrated since 1513 when Germana de Foix, second wife of Ferdinand the Catholic, granted the city the privilege of holding this fair.
Since then, Barbastro has maintained the tradition of celebrating this fair on February 2nd, bringing together more than three hundred stalls selling agri-food products, nurseries, textiles and accessories, and crafts that spread through the streets of the city center.
...Among the day's traditions is the blessing of candles and masks at Barbastro Cathedral and their subsequent distribution in the Plaza del Mercado (Market Square) thanks to the collaboration of the Asociación Cultural Tradiciones (Traditions Cultural Association). The day's festivities are accompanied by traditional music from the Asociación Folclórica del Somontano (Somontano Folkloric Association).
